List of congenital disorders

Congenital Defect - a defect that is present at birth.
  • Harlequin type ichthyosis - a skin disease, is the most severe form of congenital ichthyosis, characterized by a thickening of the keratin layer in fetal human skin. In sufferers of the disease, the skin contains massive, diamond-shaped scales, and tends to have a reddish color. In addition, the eyes, ears, penis, and the appendages may be abnormally contracted.(wikipedia.org)

HARLEQUIN FETUS

  • Heart disorders (Congenital heart defects) -  is a defect in the structure of the heart and great vessels which is present at birth.It is just like the case of my sister.  Many types of heart defects exist, most of which either obstruct blood flow in the heart or vessels near it, or cause blood to flow through the heart in an abnormal pattern. Other defects, such as long QT syndrome, affect the heart's rhythm. Heart defects are among the most common birth defects and are the leading cause of birth defect-related deaths. Approximately 9 people in 1000 are born with a congenital heart defect. Many defects don't need treatment, but some complex congenital heart defects require medication or surgery. see source at wikipedia.org
VSD CLASSIFICATION

CLASSIFICATION OF  CONGENITAL HEART DISEASE

Hypoplasia -can affect the heart, typically resulting in the underdevelopment of the right ventricle or the left ventricle.
Obstruction -defects occur when heart valves, arteries, or veins are abnormally narrow or blocked.
Septal defects -The septum is a wall of tissue which separates the left heart  from the right heart.
Cyanotics Defects - are called such because they result in cyanosis, a bluish-grey discoloration of the skin due to a lack of oxygen in the body.

Kind of Defects:

    * Aortic stenosis
    * Atrial septal defect (ASD)
    * Atrioventricular septal defect (AVSD)
    * Bicuspid aortic valve
    * Dextrocardia
    * Double inlet left ventricle (DILV)
    * Double outlet right ventricle (DORV)
    * Ebstein's anomaly
    * Hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS)
    * Hypoplastic right heart syndrome (HRHS)
    * Mitral stenosis
    * Pulmonary atresia
    * Pulmonary stenosis
    * Transposition of the great vessels
          o dextro-Transposition of the great arteries (d-TGA)
          o levo-Transposition of the great arteries (l-TGA)
    * Tricuspid atresia
    * Persistent truncus arteriosus
    * Ventricular Septal defect (VSD)

Some conditions affect the great vessels or other vessels in close proximity to the heart, but not the heart itself, but are often classified as congenital heart defects. see (wikipedia.org)

    Why am i interested about "Surgery"?

    November 15,  2011,at exactly 3pm, when my sister had an open heart surgery at the Philippine Heart Center...She was diagnosed with congenital heart disease . By this, it motivates me and passionate me to boost up my interest about surgeon..I loved my sister, i wanted to know more about the surgery. How this happen and how the operation was going on. It really boost my interest...though its complicated but a little knowledge can make changes.

    See actual operation of congenital heart disease ( just like the operation done to my sister)

    The video shows the operation of patient with congenital heart disease that was similarly done to my sister when she undergone heart surgery..It is considered as a major operation, it happens to a children who congenitally defects.

    ASD/VSD- classification

    Ventricular septal defect (VSD) is a defect in the ventricular septum, the wall dividing the left and right ventricles of the heart. The ventricular septum consists of an inferior muscular and superior membranous portion and is extensively innervated with conducting cardiomyocytes. see (nlm.nih.gov)

    Atrial septal defect (ASD) is a congenital heart defect in which the wall that separates the upper heart chambers (atria) does not close completely. Congenital means the defect is present at birth.

    ASD CLASSIFICATION

    6 years ago when our youngest sister was diagnosed with congenital heart disease. i was wondering if she will be fine  without early medications.  One thing i know that congenital heart disease refers to a problem with the heart's structure and function due to abnormal heart development before birth. Congenital means present at birth. You can hardly recognized and even diagnosed a person with this kind of heart problem.  My sister never possesses anything that will recognize her with a heart disease.  She looks like a normal person physically.  She doesn't get unconcious.  You can hardly recognized this kind of congenital disorders only when you visit your physician. Regular check up is much more important that anything.  They said "Prevention is better than Cure".  It was really true.
